2009 Purity Conference Letter

Dear Friends in Christ,

Praise the Lord and Greetings in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. We hope this letter finds you and your congregation prospering in the grace of our Lord.

We are writing this letter to share with you the burden the Lord has placed upon our hearts. We find that our youth are struggling now more than ever with the things of the flesh. Despite the number of youth advocacy groups, we feel that we too, need to take accountability for the education and encouragement of abstinence. With an estimated one million people currently living with HIV in the United States, approximately 40,000 new infections are occurring each year. As of 2005, Delaware has reported approximately 3,500 cases of HIV/AIDS, while chlamydia, gonorrhea and other diseases are ravaging our young people across the nation. We would love to think that our children are not plagued with these decisions, but everyday the devil is presenting these scenarios using various media.

Therefore, to counteract teenage pregnancy, the spread of HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases among our young people, I would like to present you with the First Annual Purity Conference. This conference is for both male and female. We will be sending you a curriculum guide, which will consist of “hot topics” dealing with major issues that our youth face on a daily basis. The guide will be delivered to each participating church. In order to implement this program, we will need you to designate one person responsible for discussing the curriculum guide with your youth prior to the conference.

The person designated to administer the curriculum guide will introduce an essay contest. The essay contest winner from each age group will receive a limited scholarship. The essays will be submitted prior to the conference and the winner will be announced at the conference. The conference will convene on Friday night with the opening address and the mission of the Purity Program. The conference will conclude with a Purity Gala including dinner and a concert. The Purity Gala will consist of a ring presentation from the parents (rings to be provided by the parents) to each participant and a vow of purity. This will be a formal event where gowns and tuxedos are required. Please note that a registration fee will be required for each interested young person ages 12 -18. This conference is not only for virgins, but also for those that may have fallen and would like to re-commit themselves and make a vow of future vow of purity to the Lord.

We would love for you to support this endeavor as it provides an avenue of liberty to our youth. Knowing that they can live a life of abstinence and still enjoy life. Furthermore, through this program we want to stress the importance of self-esteem and self-worth. We feel these very important character traits breed abstinence and the saving of oneself until marriage.
